Died on this date – 11th October…… Frederick Allan Vincent was born at Burnie, Tasmania on 27th November, 1896.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 5th April, 1918 as a 21 year old, single, Labourer from Upper Burnie, Tasmania.
Private Frederick Allan Vincent, Service number 56619, embarked from Hobart, Tasmania on T.S.S. Moeraki on 6th July, 1918. He was posted to Liverpool Camp, Sydney, NSW on 8th July, 1918.
On 17th July, 1918 Private Vincent embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT Borda (A30) with the 2nd Tasmanian General Service Reinforcements & disembarked at London, England on 27th September, 1918.
Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.
He was marched in to 9th Training Battalion at Fovant, Wiltshire, England on 27th September, 1918 from Australia & was posted to Reinforcements of 40th Battalion.
Private Vincent was marched in to R.B.A.A. (Reserve Brigade Australian Artillery) at Heytesbury, Wiltshire on 4th October, 1918 from 2nd Training Brigade at Fovant.
On 5th October, 1918 Private Vincent was sent sick to Group Clearing Hospital, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire with Influenza. He was transferred & admitted to Military Hospital, Sutton Veny & was reported to be seriously ill with Influenza Pneumonia on 9th October, 1918.
Private Frederick Allan Vincent died at 00.30 on 11th October, 1918 at Military Hospital, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire from Cardiac Failure after Influenza Pneumonia.
He was buried in London Road Cemetery, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England where 8 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
