Son of Edward and Matilda LAMBERT, 47 Francis Street, Leichhardt, New South Wales
Sergeant J. R. Lambert of the 2nd Battalion, fifth son of the late E. H. Lambert and Mrs. Lambert, of Bourke street, Tamworth, who was killed in action, on November 6, previous to enlisting was in the employ of Messrs. Landers and Cantrell for nearly seven years. He enlisted in August 1914, and was amongst the first Tamworth men to offer their services. Three other brothers, Corpl. J. L. Lambert, 5th Pioneers, Pte. W. E. Lambert. 45th Battalion, Pte. C. S. Lambert, 3rd Battalion, have also been on active service. Out of these Pte W. E. Lambert was returned wounded from Gallipoli in September 1915, and in March of the following year re-enlisted for service abroad, while Pte. C. S. Lambert was invalided to Australia from Egypt in May, 1916 after a severe attack of double pneumonia. Another brother, the youngest of the family, S. E. Lambert has been attending hospital since February, 1917, after an operation, so as to enable him to go into camp for service abroad.
Sergt. J. R. Lambert, who was killed, was only 23 years and 6 months of age.
