Vivian was appointed Lance Corporal, 20 December 1916; promoted Temporary Corporal, 24 May 1917; Corporal, 20 July 1917; Sergeant, 17 November 1917.

According to the 22nd Battalion war diary on the date Corry was killed at Dernancourt, ‘The front line tour at this time was marked by a number of patrol encounters’

His brother 1837 Pte James Joseph Corry 3rd Pioneer Battalion AIF, was killed in action, 26 July 1917, age 25. Another brother 3068 Driver Archibald Arthur Corry 59th Battalion AIF, returned to Australia, 8 April 1919.
