Biography

"DEATH OF PTE. A. H. STEWART.

Pte. A. H. Stewart, of the 53rd Battalion is officially reported to have been killed in action. The deceased soldier was a son of Mrs. T. Stewart, Muswellbrook. He enlisted about two years ago, and was previously reported missing. He was a native of this district, an upright young man, strong and intelligent, possessed the qualities necessary for a soldier, and is now numbered amongst his country's military heroes. His mother who is a widow has another son at the front, and much sympathy is naturally felt for her in her bereavement." - from the Maitland Daily Mercury 21 Sep 1917 (nla.gov.au)
