Son of Henry Patrick McCarthy of Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland
January 1916 Court Martialled for failing to his candle when 'Lights out' was order. Found not guilty
16 May 16 - Court Martialled:- AWOL for 1 day, disobeying a lawful commanded, using violence against a superior officer
Reduced to the rank of Private and sentenced to prison for 15 years and was sent to Havre Military Prison to serve his sentence but sentence was commuted to I.H.L.
12 February 1918 - Court Martialled for attempting to strike a Sergeant with a clenched fist. Found guilty and sentenced to 12 months I.H.L. but released from prison on 17 April 1918
