My grandfather first served in the Boer War Service Number: 3068
Rank: Trooper
Unit: 3rd New South Wales Mounted Rifles
Conflict: South Africa, 1899-1902 (Boer War)
His trade was Horse Breaker the family came from the Bathurst - Forbes area and his service is recorded on the Bathurst Boer War memorial.
He completed his service with the New South Wales Mounted Rifles as a corporal, he re-inlisted in the 7th Light Horse Regiment at the outbreak of the first world war at the age of 38 3/4yrs with the rank of Sergeant the regiment was sent to the Middle East 9th April 1915 and then to Gallipoli, he was wounded and repatriated to Australia 23rd September, 1915, He returned to the Middle East with the 28th reinforcements of the 7th Light Horse Regiment completed his service as a Staff Sergeant and passed away at Concord repatriation hospital 7th August,1959

Herbert Brisbane Lloyd (actually his real birth name was Richard Lloyd but he used Herbert Brisbane as an alias from about 1891) enlisted 11/1/1915 and served with the 7th Light Horse Regiment until he was returned to Australia in September 1916 with debility and anaemia. He returned to duty 1/2/1917 and embarked at Sydney (enlisted as Brisbane Herbert) on 11/6/1917 but was put off in Melbourne to hospital, and finally discharged there as medically unfit on 22/11/1917.
