Son of Charles Vaughan and Mary Frances Vaughan Guthrie of Mill Street, Ballarat, Victoria.

Brother of Raymond Dawson Vaughan who was killed in action on 9 June 1917 while serving with the 9th Battalion and is buried in the Messines Ridge British Cemetery. Plot 1, Row C, Grave 20.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 June 1919 aboard HT Themistocles disembarking on 8 August 1919
