Son of Cornelius Michael and Eva Smelt.

"Mrs. H. Young, Ottaway, has been notified that her brother, Pte. C. H. Smelthas been reported as missing as from August 19." - from the Adelaide Register 04 Oct 1916 (nla.gov.au)

"THE LATE PRIVATE C. H. SMELT.

Private C. H. Smelt, who was reported missing, was killed in action on August 19, 1916. He was 26 years of age and left for the front on October 27, 1915. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. C. M.
