The Minmi Roll of Honour has 79 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.

The 23rd name inscribed is Private George Pickard.

Private George Pickard, 34th Battalion (Reg No-1219), butcher (West Wallsend Co-operative Society), from West Wallsend, New South Wales.

I could not locate when George died or his place of burial.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 19th December 1893 to Joseph William, died 10.2.1925, Minmi, N.S.W., age 70, buried at Minmi Cemetery, Left Hand Side, Section 15, Plot 032, unmarked grave, from Church Street, Minmi, N.S.W., and Sarah Pickard, died 16.6.1936, Cessnock Hospital, age 66, mother of 8, sleeping at Cessnock Cemetery, N.S.W.; husband of Florence Pickard nee Kendall, married 5.4.1919, the Parish Church, Frizinghall, Yorkshire, England, age 20, died?

George enlisted on the 17th January 1916, age 22 years 1 month, at West Maitland, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 2nd May 1916.

Disembarked Plymouth, England 23.6.1916.
Proceeded O/Seas to France from Southampton, England 21.11.1916.

Invalided to England 6.6.1918.

Commenced return to Australia 23.7.1919.

George arrived home with wife Florence on the 14th September 1919, being discharged on the 7th November 1919.

Mr. Pickard’s name has also been inscribed on the West Wallsend Soldiers' Memorial, West Wallsend Superior Public School Honour Roll and the Newcastle & Northern District Branch Meat Workers' Union Honour Roll, unveiled on the 10th January 1920, 47 names inscribed, whereabouts unknown.
