William Arthur Alderson was born on 24th October 1888, in Strathalbyn, Adelaide, South Australia. His father was Henry Alderson, and his mother was Annie nee McCallister. He had blue eyes, a fresh complexion, and brown hair, his height was 5’3. His home address was “22 George Court, Wright St., Adelaide, South Australia”. He married Stella on 11th March 1916 6 weeks after he enlisted.

He was enlisted on 27th Jan 1916 when he was 28 years old, in Adelaide. He was in the 10th Battalion and his rank was Private.

He embarked from Australia on HMAT Shropshire A9 on 25th March 1916 to the Middle East. He proceeded overseas to France 15th August. Alderson wounded in action on his right leg several months later on 8th April 1917 and was taken Prisoner of War, interned at Bantigny Germany.

After the war ended he arrivewd back in England on the 30th December 1918, and he was repatriated back to Australia 2nd March 1919.

He died suddenly at his residence, in Kilburn, South Australia on 2 June 1947, aged 58 years.
