Worshipful Brother Lieutenant Thomas Edwyn Andrews
Thomas Edwyn Andrews was born on the 23rd of August 1888 in Ingham, Queensland, to Thomas and Ruth Andrews. He married his fiancée Elsie Louise Oliver on the 15th of May 1912 at St Peters Church in the West End of Townsville and adopted a son John Edwin Andrews (born on the 17th of March 1914 and served in the Australian Army in the Second World War). Thomas was employed as a clerk before enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force on the 6th of March 1916. He served with the 41st Battalion on the Western Front until being invalided back to Australia with a lung complaint on the 25th of August 1917. Upon returning to Australia, he was transferred to the Home Service in which he was commissioned to the rank of Lieutenant on the 1st of March 1919 in the 31st Battalion. While still serving with the 31st Battalion he succumbed to his war related lung complaint on the 1st of June 1919, in Hughenden Queensland.
Thomas is buried at the Hughenden Cemetery in Queensland, grave 982. He is commemorated on the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. City of Townsville WW1 Honour Roll and the Townsville Grammar School WW1 Honour Board at the rank of Private as the last rank he had obtained when serving in the Australian Imperial Forces.
