Mr Gamble’s name has been inscribed on the Wickham Superior Public School Roll of Honour (unveiled on the 27th July 1918, name inscribed second row, 5th from btm, installed at the Newcastle Interchange, N.S.W., August 2017).

For 74 years Mr Gamble had been resting in an unmarked grave, so I placed a cross adorned with poppies July 2017 on the gravesite, taken a photo of the grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service. An application for a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque, curbing and marble chip submitted January 2019, and was accepted February 2019, completed July 2019.

Younger brother Alexander Samuel (Reg No-83, 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital and 35th Battalion) also resting at the cemetery in an unmarked grave, has been officially commemorated with a Plaque at the Garden of Remembrance, Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney, N.S.W.

Still waiting for Alexander’s gravesite to be officially commemorated.
Lest We Forget.
