Enlisted: 4 March 1916, Edmund Youlden Taylor joined the 10 Light Horse at the age of 45. In September on parade at Claremont Camp his horse reared, threw him, and he suffered a broken shoulder. He was discharged on 17 February 1917. On 18 June 1917 he reenlisted in Perth and was placed in 3rd Tunnelling Company, taken on strength in France on 10 February 1918.

On his return after World War I Edmund Youlden Taylor spent a short time in Dowerin before working as an Immigration Agent for the Western Australian government in London. He became unhappy with the treatment of migrants and took up a Soldier Settlement farm at Yandanooka Estate in Mingenew.  He was active in community events and served as a Justice of the Peace. Taylor resided and farmed at Yandanooka until his death aged 80.
