Biography contributed by Faithe Jones
Private W. J. SPURLING, of the 32rd Battalion, who was killed in action on June 21, was the elder twin son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Spurling, Beaufort. He left South Australia on September 21, 1916. He possessed a good constitution, and a brave spirit, and was in action for 18 months in France, with the exception of a few days leave at the beginning of this year. Private Spurling was well known in the district of Nantawarra and South Hummocks, where, in conjunction with his brother, he was engaged in farming for a num- ber of years. He had many splendid qualities, which, with his genial disposition, brought him many friends. Private E. T. Spurling was wounded on the day that his brother died.
