Hubert's parents were George Collings and Rachel Stokes. Hubert attended North Pine State School. Hubert married Annie in 1912, in Perth, Western Australia.
He enlisted 9 January 1917, Perth Western Australia and embarked on HMAT Miltiades A28, 29 January 1917. Although a soldier named Hubert Collings is listed on the North Pine State School Roll of Honour as being killed in battle, this Hubert Collings returned home.
