He was 23 and the son of George and Nancy L. C. Hayward, of 6, Mountfield Rd., Tunbridge Wells, England.

He is commemorated on the Tunbridge Wells war memorial and on a plaque at St James Church as George Hayward.

I may say my dear son's time while in the Colony for the most part was spent in Northern South Australia sheep farming at Lilydale Station also at Muniferuie Station. Mr Preed of 109 Cambridge Terrace, Malvern S.A. knew him well and was with him at Lemnos while on active service.
