Donald McDonald enlisted for the war effort and was assigned to 23rd battalion. He was wounded at Ypres and Villiers Bretanaux .He was honourably discharged on  6 / 4 / 19.     

He married his sweetheart Christina ,who had waited for him after the war in 1921.  They went on to have a daughter Kathleen and a son , Donald . 

Donald Snr was caretaker at the Altona Explosives Reserve where he and Christina raised their children & he remained caretaker until retirement in 1953.

They retired in Hawthorn where he passed in 1962.

They had four grandchildren.
