th Light Horse
Henry was the youngest son of Henry and Elisabeth Mackereth [nee
Stephens]. Henry fought at Gallipoli where he sustained a gunshot wound to
the right arm on 28 August 1915. After receiving treatment at Mudros he was
sent to the Military Hospital in London and was able to rejoin his unit on 27
April 1916. Henry served in Egypt for the vast majority of the war. He was
promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal on 17 November 1917 and made a
Corporal on 1 January 1919, after which he returned to Australia on the H.T.
Oxfordshire on 10 July, disembarked on 10 August and was discharged on 10
October.
