1783 Private Roger Moloney of Wangaratta, Victoria, who gave his age as 38 on attestation and employed as a Bush Hand enlisted for War Service on the 9th of December 1914, and was dually accepted.
Posted to 4th Reinforcements for the 5th Battalion 1st AIF, bound for Egypt and further training, Roger departed Australia per HMAT ‘Wiltshire’ on the 14th of April 1915. With his reinforcement quota, Roger was embarked from Egypt bound for Gallipoli, and he was officially taken on strength with his Battalion then in the trenches on the 25th of May.
Roger would remain on duty with his Battalion continuously until he was evacuated from Gallipoli to Mudros Island for hospitalisation due to illness (Diagnosed as Diarrhoea), and following his recovery and a short period of convalescence, Roger was deemed fit enough to be returned Gallipoli where he re-joined his Battalion , officially again being taken on strength on the 10th of October. Within days of this Roger was again evacuated due to illness on the 14th of October, arriving back to Mudros Island for hospital care, and now being diagnosed as suffering from melancholia caused by War Service.
On the 21st of October Roger was embarked from Mudros Island bound for England, where he arrived on the 25th of November, and was admitted into the Royal Victoria Hospital located at Netley, England.
Roger would remain hospitalised until beginning his repatriation back to Australia embarking from England bound for Egypt, where he disembarked on the 30th of April and was admitted into hospital at Abbassier recorded as suffering from mental illness.
On the 1th of April Roger began his return journey from Egypt bound for Australia on board the Hospital Ship ‘Kanowna’ following which he safely arrived on the 16th of June 1916.
Private Roger Moloney was formally discharged from the 1st AIF for his re-entry into civilian life on the 31st of August 1916.

PTE Roger Moloney was hospitalised at the Mont Park Military Hospital until his death on the 16th of July 1939.
PTE Moloney's burial took place within Roman Catholic compartment, Section R, Grave 3192, at Fawkner Memorial Park Cemetery, Victoria.
