Biography

James Cunningham previously served with the Australian Royal Navy enlisting in February 1915 as a stoker (Service number 4648) until February 1917 when he deserted. His service record notes his desertion from the RAN and there is an application after the war for the reinstatement of his military medals which were forfeited when he deserted. He enrolled with the AIF in December 1917 and served in the 5th Field Butchery Unit, initially in London before transferring to France after the war had finished
