Thomas Harold Ford
Thomas Harold Ford was born in 1894 the fifth son of
Hugh Thomas and Hannah Ford and brother of Henry,
William, Arthur, Emily, Elsie, Joseph, Irene, Gordon
and Leslie. His sister Vera died in infancy.
Thomas enlisted on October 27, 1916 and embarked
from Sydney on June 14, 1917 on board H.M.A.T.
Hororata with the 25th Battalion. He proceeded to the
Western Front and during the German Spring Offensive,
on April 20, 1918 he was severely wounded in action.
He received gunshot wounds to his head and shoulder
and was transported to the Horton War Hospital,
Epsom, England. After recovering, he was transferred to
the Australian Provost Corps, Tidworth, U.K.
He returned to Australia in May, 1920 and in 1932
married Kathleen O’Connor in Grafton. Thomas died in
hospital on August 14, 1962 aged 68 years. He was
predeceased by his wife, who died in 1959, and survived
by children Gordon, Joan, Lola, Dorothy and Rex.
