Son of Frederick Bignell Oldham and Alice Edith Oldham of Queens Avenue, St Arnaud, Victoria, later of Horsham, Victoria.

Brother of Frederic Horace Oldham who died on 11 March 1917 while serving with the 21st Battalion and is buried in in the Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Plot V1, Row C, Grave 40; Harold Grant Oldham who returned to Australia on 29 May 1919 having served with the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 19 April 1919 aboard HT Marathon as nursing staff, disembarking on 5 June 1919
