Hurford George (birth certificate only records George) ROBERTSON was born at Firewood Creek, Burra on 20 September 1877. He had numerous, brothers, sisters, half-brothers and half-sisters. George ROBERTSON married Emma HEWITT at Adelaide on 23 December 1905 who he divorced in 1936. There were no children to the marriage although his attestment paper says 2 children.

It appears he has remarried Emma BRADLEY in Berri on 4 June 1927. The Christian name of Hurford has only appeared after he wed Emma BRADLEY. This was just a ploy to cover up he was already married.

Hurford George ROBERTSON died at Renmark on 07.03.1934. His death certificate notes angina pectoris. (a heart condition). It notes he had no children.

OBITUARY - SOLDIER PASSES
Flag at Half Mast

As the result of war Injuries, Hurford George Robertson, who served in the 50th Battalion during the Great War, died in the Renmark Hospital at 6.30 a.m. on Wednesday, The flag over the R.S.A. club room was flown a half mast.

Mr. Robertson was 56 years of age. He joined the army during1 1915 and was badly gassed. He was a civilian pensioner and foundation member and vice-president of the pensioner's league at Remark. He was always willing to help others along the road of life. He held the "comfort." fund for all the old age pensioners in the district, who highly respected him Mr. Robertson was given a funeral to-day by the R.S.A. and the R.A.O.B. lodge. The Rev. A. L». Bulbeck officiating. Sympathy is extended to his wife. There is no family.

Military

Hurford George ROBERTSON enlisted as George ROBERTSON aged 39 years into the AIF on 15.08.1916 and was given service number 2727. He was attached to the 6th reinforcements of the 50th Battalion.

Pte ROBERTSON embarked on 23.10.1916 arriving in France on 10.05.1917. He took part in the major battles of Passchendaele (Messines and Polygon Wood) before being evacuated to England with gonorrhoea. As a result, he was invalided to Australia with general debility. He was discharged from the AIF on 15.08.1918.

He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
