82 years ago today, on the 1st July 1943, Trooper James Edward Kentish, 1st ANZAC Battalion, Imperial Camel Corps (Reg No-1100), railway porter from Werris Creek, New South Wales and Rozelle?, N.S.W., was privately interred at Rookwood Catholic Cemeteries and Crematoria, N.S.W.

Born at West Maitland, New South Wales on the 19th February 1889 to William Richard, died 11.11.1942, Lambton, N.S.W., age 84, buried at METHODIST 1 (WESLEYAN) E SW. 20, from 83 Young Road, Lambton, New South Wales, and Rosannah (Roseanna, Rosanna) Kentish nee Cock, died 20.4.1944, Lambton, N.S.W., age 80, mother of 12, sleeping at METHODIST 1 (WESLEYAN) E SW. 22, from 83 Young Road, Lambton, New South Wales; husband of Eileen F Kentish nee Brown, married 1916, Balmain North, N.S.W., died?, from 3 Wells Street, Balmain, New South Wales, James enlisted on the 13th November 1915 with the July 1916 Reinforcements at Armidale, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board RMS Mongolia on the 8th July 1916.

Transferred to Imperial Camel Corps 7.9.1916.

Admitted to hospital 10.9.1917 (neurasthenia - shell shock).

Commenced return to Australia 12.11.1917.

James arrived home invalided on the 20th December 1917, not being discharged medically unfit until the 19th June 1918.

A report that James was unable to attend a welcome home at the Lambton Coronation Hall, but James's mother Rosannah Kentish was present to accept a gold medal on his behalf. James was in a Military Hospital in Sydney being treated for shell shock.

Mr. Kentish’s name has not been inscribed on the Lambton Park Citizens' Memorial Gates and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name not inscribed on the NSW Government Railways and Tramways, First World War Roll of Honour.

James has been memorialised with his two Fallen brothers at the Kentish gravesite. METHODIST 1 (WESLEYAN) E SW. 20.

Younger brother Alfred Kentish (born 26.8.1897, Lambton, New South Wales, driver (Hexham J & A Brown Workshops), from 83 Young Road, Lambton, New South Wales, enlisted 14.8.1915, 2nd Battalion, Reg No-4813, KIA 19.7.1916, Battle of Fromelles, 54th Battalion, age 18 years 10 months, name inscribed on the VC Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles, France. Panel 10), memorialised same location.

Younger brother Arthur Kentish (born 10.1.1893, Lambton, New South Wales, blacksmith's striker from Young Road, Lambton, New South Wales, enlisted 22.1.1915, 13th Battalion, Reg No-1772, RTA 7.9.1915 (dysentery), re-embarked 16.2.1916, wounded in action - 8.7.1916 (GSW shoulder, severe), Killed in Action - 4th February 1917, Age-24, memorialised same location.
