Private V. A. R. HURCOMBE, of the 48th Battalion, who was reported killed in action in France on October 12, was the younger of two sons of Mrs. F. E. Davies, of Brighton. Both left for the front last year. He was 19 years and 9 months old, and was born at North Norwood. He attended the North Norwood school, and was employed by Messrs. Wilkinson & Co. for three years. He then resided at Kangarilla. From the outset of the war he was anxious to serve his country, and eagerly waited his 18th birthday. Soon after gaining his parents' consent he enlisted. He was a fine athlete and his affectionate disposition endeared him to all.
