Husband of Augusta Bishop Oates nee Lindsay of 'Gloncon', Densham Road, Armadale, Victoria. James and Augusta married during 1915c in Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 May 1919 aboard HT Soudan disembarking on 29 June 1919.
