Alfred was born 12 Oct 1891 in Townsville, son of Alfred John Yapp and Susanna Jane Parry, of Stagpole Street, West End.  He enlisted 21 Sep 1914 in Townsville and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT A40 “Ceramic” on 22 Dec 1914.  Private Yapp served on the Western Front with the 15th Battalion, 7th Machine Gun Company. He was Wounded in Action on 27 Aug 1916 in France with shell shock, and was returned to Australia on 4 May 1917.  On 16 Aug 1920, he married Edith May Reynolds. He was a fireman and engine cleaner in the railways. He died 9 Apr 1950.
