Royston Leopold Harold ANSTIS was born in Croydon, Surrey, London in 1895 - he was also known as Roy in some of his war records

His parents were George Ernest ANSTIS & Laura Elizabeth GOODING who married in England in 1895

He enlisted at Enoggera in Queensland on 29th January, 1916 and embarked with the 25th Infantry Battalion, 10th Reinforcements from Brisbane on the HMAT Commonwealth on 28th March, 1916

Roy was Killed in Action on 30th October, 1917 at Passchendaele, Ypres, Belgium due to wounds from an exploding shell - no known grave

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial

His brother Claud Clement Godfrey ANSTIS (SN 7095) 15th Battalion was also Killed in Action in WW1 on 14th August, 1918
