Thomas's parents were William Henry Bond and Annie Hamilton, both well-known pioneering families of Terrors Creek. He was educated at Upper North Pine State School. He was the seventh child of eight children. He enlisted 20 August 1917 at Brisbane. He embarked for overseas service on 2 March 1918 from Sydney
he joined the 2nd Light Horse Regiment. Thomas returned to Australia March 1919, and married Hazel Yoland Westaway, March 1921 in Brisbane. Thomas died aged 90. Three of Thomas's brothers enlisted, Donald Archibald [4763] who was killed, Frederick Arthur [466] and Richard Winsely [1872].
