Half brother to Edward James Verney who returned to Australia on 3 January 1918 having served in the 1sr Pioneer Battalion.

Husband of Edith Elizabeth Verney nee Eyres of Renwick Street, Redfern, NSW. Walter and Edith married during 1914c in Sydney, NSW

Commenced return to Australia on 22 July 1919 aboard HT Ulysses disembarking at Melbourne on 2 September 1919 but did not re-embark. Arrived in Sydney on 5 September 1919
