Son of James Voss and Annie Myrah Voss nee Hardwidge of Bairnsdale, Victoria originally from Scotland.

Husband of Eva Mary Voss nee Smalley of Town Hall, Avenue, Preston, Victoria. Walter and Eva married during 1914c in Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 8 January 1919 aboard HT Orsova disembarking on 27 February 1919
