Biography contributed by Kathleen Emms

Allen James (Jim) WILSON was the third child and second son of Robert Malcolm and Elizabeth Jane WILSON, born at Mt Crawford, S.A.

Allen enlisted the day after his 17th birthday but gave his age as 18 years even though he had a letter from his father giving him permission to serve.

After training, embarking for England and further training on the Salisbury Plain, he joined the 10th Battalion, Belgium, on 1st February, 1918, just after his 18th birthday.  On 10th April, he was admitted sick to a field hospital and eventually transferred back to England to the Southern District Hospital, Birmingham with pleurisy and debility.  He spent until 13th September in rehabilittion hospitals in England.  He again joined the 10th Battalion at Brucamp, France on 11th October, 1918, a month before Armistice.

He returned to Australia 7th September, 1919 and was discharged 18th October, 1920.

In 1920, he was residing near Beltana when his donkey team was involved in a train accident - 2 donkeys were killed.

He did not apply for his war service medals until 1941 when he gave his address a Moorillah Station, via Beltana.

He died at Beltana 30th May, 1964.
