My Great Great Uncle.
James Edward O'Connor was born 11 December 1891 in Gympie QLD, the son of John O'Connor and Ellen Fahey.
Enlisted 13 July 1915 age 23. Service number 274
Embarked 9 November 1915 aboard HMAT Wandilla A62
RTA 9 February 1919
Discharged 24 May 1919 in the 1st Military District as a Cpl but his service record shows a field promotion to Sgt.
Married Isabellla Gibson on 26 September 1922 in Bundaberg QLD.
James passed away 03 July 1973 at the Good Shepherd nursing home in Townsville aged 82. Isabella passed away 10 November 1970 and both are buried at the Belgian Gardens cemetery, Townsville. His grave is section A11 number 376.
James parents were both Irish migrants who came from County Tipperary, Ireland. John was gold mine manager in Gympie and later had pubs in Gympie and also Howard QLD and Murgon QLD.
James had 1 son, John James O'Connor who was a QLD Police Sgt in the water police and died on duty 23 June 1976.
James has 1 granddaughter.
This is all the information we have on James as he moved around a bit after his marriage. He and his wife both ended up in Townsville and stayed until their deaths.
