My Great Uncle
Roy Edward Francis Sadler was born 1896 in the Parish Pilliga, which is near the town of Wee Waa N.S.W. he is my Grandmother brother, this would make him my Great Uncle. His occupation was described in his army records as Labourer.
My grandmother was born Elsie Catherine Sadler was born 1895 in the Parish Pilliga, which is near the town of Wee Waa N.S.W.
Grandma had a picture of Roy in his uniform hanging in the dinner room, it was one of those picture where his eyes seem to follow you around the room. I remember asking her when I was young about him. She was very proud of Roy but you could see in her eyes at the sadness of lose, I know she truly missed him. Grandma also told me that when he joined up (7th Aust. Light Horse Regiment) he had to take his own horse.
