Biography

Samuel Graham Moss was born in Glanville , a suburb near Port Adelaide to the NW of Adelaide city.  Later the family lived in Prospect

He was one of three brothers to enlist, the other two being Alwyn Elliot Moss (www.rslvirtualwarmemorial.org.au)and Heywood Seymour Moss (www.rslvirtualwarmemorial.org.au).  At the time of enlistment he listed his mother Mrs Elizabeth Moss as his next of kin.  He and Alwyn enlisted within days of one another in late August 1915.  Alwyn and Samuel were assigned to the same reinforcement draft of the 27th Battalion; the 8th Reinforcements. They embarked together on the HMAT Borda A 30 on the 12th January 1916.  Their service careers pralleled one another throughout the remainder of the war, transferring to the 10th Battalion in the process. Heywood, the youngest brother, joined up 18 months later and was coincidentally conveyed to war by the same ship that had carried his brothers 18 months earlier.
