During the second phase of the operation the 4th Pioneer Battalion came under heavy machine gun and rifle fire from the enemy on the opposite hilltop. Lance Corporal Heydon, regardless of danger, pushed forward with his Lewis gun and dispersed the enemy, enabling the wave to continue without further casualties. | |
