SERGEANT CLAUDE VALENTINE PAGE
Service No. 1822 - 2nd Battalion, 4th Reinforcements.
Born 1895 at Warialda, NSW, son of Henry J Page & Mary Ann Walsh. A Motor Mechanic, married, age 19 years, living at 56 Henry St, Leichardt, Sydney, enlisted on the 5th of February 1915 at Liverpool NSW.
Embarked from Sydney on the HMAT Argyllshire on 10 April 1915. Served with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Reinforcements at Gallipoli and France.
Claude was one of the last fifteen men to leave Gallipoli after the evacuation.
Sergeant Page was killed in action on 4 May 1917 at the 2nd Battle of Bullecourt, France.
He was survived by his wife Dorothy Mary Page nee Horan, who later married William McCann of Griffith. Claude’s memorial details are at Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. His name is located at panel thirty-four in the Commonwealth Area at the Australian War Memorial.
