"...2175 Percival Thomas Holland, 1st Australian Imperial Force. He was the son of Mathew Holland and Louisa Heyer. Born 25 October 1894 in Scott Creek SA. Died in 1973, registered in St Leonards district NSW. He enlisted in the AIF on 12 February 1915. Service Number: 2175, rank: Private, 10 Infantry Battalion. Percival Thomas Holland was born in Scott Creek, South Australia on the 25th of October 1894 to Mathew Holland and Louisa Heyer. He lived with his parents in Scott Creek in the Adelaide Hills. Before he went to war, he worked as a gardener.
Thomas Holland became a part of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) on the 12th of February 1915, joining the 10th Infantry Battalion that had been raised in 1914 soon after war was declared. He was in the 6th Reinforcement. His rank was Driver. He was single when he embarked.
He left for the war on the 23rd of June 1915. He was only 20 years old and 4 months when he embarked. He embarked from Adelaide, on board HMAT A30 Borda on the 23rd of June to Alexandria. He was taken on strength at Gallipoli 4th August 1915. Thomas Holland caught Diphtheria in 12/10/15 and was hospitalised at Mudros and then Lemnos. He rejoined his unit in March 1916 at Alexandria. He disembarked at Marseille 3rd April 1916. At the battle of Pozieres, Holland was wounded with a gun shot wound to his temple on the 24/7/16. On the 25th, he was admitted to 22nd General Hospital. After receiving treatment he was discharged to base 5th August 1916 and rejoined the 10th Battalion for a couple of weeks before being transferred to the 2nd Divisional Ammunition Column in Belgium 9th September 1916.
10 September 1917 he was accidentally injured with severe contused right foot while loading ammunication to a wagon when his foot became jammed. He was admitted to the 1st Southern General Hospital in Birmingham. He rejoined the 2nd Divisional Ammunition Column in November and was transferred to the 4th Field Ambulance where he served until he took leave in October 1918 travelling to the UK.
He returned on the 5th of April 1919. He disembarked 24th May 1919 and was discharged 25th July 1919.
Thomas sadly passed away on the 1st of January in 1973 of natural causes aged 79 in NSW.
