He was the son of Stephen & Alice Jane Harvey of "Milltown," Beckley.
He emigrated to Australia in 1913.
He is remembered in Sussex, England on the Beckley village war memorial- a Cross which stands on the green outside the church of All Saints. There is another memorial in the Parish Church of All Saints plus details on the Lych Gate, some other details inside the church and on the lych gate.

"...1659 Private Hyland Jesse Harvey, 49th Battalion. Pte Harvey, a plumber from Brisbane, Qld, prior to enlisting on 5 October 1915, embarked from Sydney aboard SS Hawkes Bay on 20 April 1916. He was killed by a shell at Mouquet Farm, France on 5 September 1916. He was 23 years of age." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
