Biography contributed by Adelaide High School

Jasper George Porker was born in Kadina, South Australia and his parents were Susan and John Porker. Jasper was one of 13 children and was the middle child. After school, he worked as a Farm Hand until his enlistment, at age 27. He was raised as part of the Methodist Church and he enlisted on the 22nd of February 1916 in Adelaide. With no previous military experience, Jasper was ranked as a Private and remained that way throughout his military journey. His rank embarked on the boat HMAT A60 Aeneas on the 11th of April 1916. As he was a part of the 32nd Battalion, he landed in Egypt and the soldiers went on to fight in both France and Belgium. Jasper was on active duty until he was wounded in action on the 12th of December 1917, with a gunshot wound to the face and knee. He remained in hospital for 78 days, leading to him being discharged as unfit for service, and on December 24th, 1918, he returned to Australia. After the war, Jasper had a quiet life, married a woman named Clara, and had 3 kids. He passed away on the 7th of August 1966 at age 79.
