Ada Priscilla Smith one of twelve was born on March 5 of 1887, she grew up in darling downs near Warwick, Queensland. Her parents were James Smith and Anna Maria Allen.
Ada trained to be a nurse at the Warwick Base hospital, Queensland. In the early days, nurses were poorly paid and were expected to clean and scrub the floors as well as care for patients. Ada was nursing at Murwillumbah, NSW when world War one started. Ada returned to Warwick after she decided to enlist, soon after she retuned she was accepted immediately. In 1916 Ada was in charge of five different hospital tents with 150 patients.
