54 years ago today, on the 8th July 1970, Gunner Keith Aloysius Reid, 2nd Australian Field Artillery Brigade (Reg No-2238), clerk from 83 Wolfe Street, Newcastle, New South Wales and 148 Gordon Avenue, Hamilton, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 76. CATHOLIC 3-98. 132.
Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 23rd December 1893 to William Andrew, died 23.10.1910, Katoomba, N.S.W., age 46, buried at CATHOLIC 1-C Spec. 99, and Mary Catherine Reid nee Bourke, died 28.10.1945, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 77, sleeping at CATHOLIC 1-C Spec. 99, name not listed on the Sandgate Cemetery websites, from 96 Church Street, Newcastle, N.S.W.; husband of Ina Devaney Reid nee Hogan, married 1922, Sydney, N.S.W., died 6.2.1973, Ryde, N.S.W., age 79, sleeping here, Keith enlisted on the 23rd November 1915 with the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment at Liverpool, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A26 Armadale on the 21st March 1916.
Admitted to hospital 4.12.1916 (dental).
Granted leave to England from 10.9.1917 to 26.9.1917 and 23.10.1918 to 8.11.1918.
Commenced return to Australia 12.5.1919.
Keith arrived home on the 30th June 1919, being discharged on the 17th August 1919.
Mr. Reid’s name has been inscribed on the St. Mary's-Marist Bros' School (Newcastle) Honour Roll and the Newcastle Surf Club & Life-Saving Brigade Honor Roll, as READ.
I have placed poppies at Keith’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
