Julius’ enlistment papers were marked “Minor: not to embark before 12th May 1918.” He embarked HMAT Orontes in Sydney on 5 June 1918, disembarking at Liverpool, England on 11 August. While serving in England Julius was hospitalised at Harefield with influenza. He returned to Australia on the Khyber on 31 March 1919 and was discharged on 7 June.
