Copy of letter addressed to Military Headquarters Keswick 19/11/1917
Dear Sir
Mrs. E. Thomas of North Yelta, the mother of Abraham Thomas Regimental No. 3189, 32nd Battalion A.I.F. has been handed your telegram of the 14th Inst Rev. W.H. Robinson announcing that Lance Sergeant A. Thomas No. 2189 had been killed in action. Mrs Thomas was informed by her son that there were four others in the same Battalion named Thomas with "A" for initial of Christian name. As the number given in your telegram is not her son's number she thinks it possible that some mistake may have been made, and that the casuality may refer to one of the others named A. Thomas.
I shall be glad if you will let me know whether you can throw any further light on the matter, or whether there is any room for the mother to hope that a mistake has been made.
Yours Faithfully----------
What a stressful few weeks must have passed for my great grandmother Mrs. E. Thomas. Who would have prayed her son was safe and would return home.
