NONMUS, Gilbert Brierly. No. 2856, 42nd Battalion. Born and educated at Woodford. The son of the late Alfred Nonmus and Sarah Catherine Nonmus, of Woodford. Enlisted September 9th, 1916, and embarked 24th December, 1916, for England, per S.S. “Demosthenes.” Arrived in England, and went to Salisbury Plain to complete his training. Left for France July, 1917, was wounded at Ypres, and sent to hospital at Bayeul, thence to Etaples. Subsequently went to Colchester, England, to recuperate. Pronounced medically unfit, returned home, and discharged on 16th June, 1919, after spending 12 months in Rosemount Hospital. - Biographical information (from ‘Queenslanders who fought in the Great War’):
