George's parents were Thomas Henry Stone and Susan Elizabeth Elwood. They were living in Redcliffe where Thomas was the postman at the time of George's enlistment in January 1916. On his return from the war, George lived in the Boonah and Esk districts.

In the Shire rooms on Wednesday a presentation was made to Private George Edward Stone. He is an ex. A.l.F. soldier. Cr. J. Brough made the presentation, and said it gave him pleasure to congratulate Private Stone, particularly as this was the second occasion that he had taken us arms. It was a move of great honour. Pie. Stone's experience,  he said, would greatly help him. He wished him God speed and a safe return. Cr. Brough dresented the departing soldier with a wristlet watch. Mr. G. H. Graham, a  neighbour of Pte. Stone supported the Chairman. Pte. Stone said he was at a loss to express his appreciation to thsse controlling the Patriotic Fund for the presentatlion  and good wishes. Pte. Stone is the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stone, of Brisbane, but in late years residents of Esk. His brothers. Harry and Bob,  attended the Presentation. Also present were: Cr. J. Bronch and Mrs. Brough: Messrs. WF. Serisler. . F. Germain. G. H. Graham. and W. Campbell.
