42 years ago today, on the 21st August 1981, Driver Walter Henry Bull, 35th Battalion (Reg No-2288), labourer from Second Street, Boolaroo, New South Wales and 21 Robert Street, Wickham, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 84. METHODIST 4-12. 21.

Born at Hamilton, New South Wales on the 30th May 1897 to Thomas John Joseph and Eliza Bull or Walter H and Barbara Bull; husband of Nellie (Nelly, Ellen) Catherine Bull nee Oldfield (married 1914, Wallsend, N.S.W., died 24.7.1962, age 68, sleeping here), Walter enlisted on the 19th May 1916 at Boolaroo, N.S.W.

Discharged medically unfit, not due to misconduct 23.6.1916.

Reenlisted-4.7.1916, Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A30 Borda on the 17th October 1916.

Granted leave to England from 27.7.1918 to 13.8.1918.

Walter returned home on the 10th August 1919, being discharged on the 18th September 1919.

Mr. Bull’s name has been inscribed on the Boolaroo District Pictorial Roll of Honour, Boolaroo Methodist Church Roll of Honour, Boolaroo Presbyterian Church Honor Roll and the Sulphide Corporation Pty Ltd Cockle Creek Works Roll of Honour.

Not officially commemorated.

I have placed poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at Walter’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Walter also has an individual Memorial Plaque at The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall, located in the cemetery grounds.
