Biography contributed by Maree Worland

Pte Arthur WORLAND, aged 55, enlisted on 20 September 1915. He served in Egypt as a farrier looking after the horses until 17 July 1916 when he was invalided home chiefly as a result of a kick over the heart by a mule and the climate. He died in April 1922.

FATHER & SIX SONS

Tuesday's Sydney Morning Herald contains a photo of Pte. Arthur WORLAND, his wife and six sons Les, Harold, Alick, Arthur, Joe and David WORLAND. Five of the sons have joined the colors and the youngest and last, a boy of 16, also managed to get his mother's consent, during the absence of the other members of the family. However, a cable from the father to the lad to return to his mother was obeyed and he discarded his uniform after four months training.

This family is of good old Scottish fighting blood, (this must refer to the CRAWFORD family as the WORLAND's were English) whose ancestors in Bonnie Scotland often marched to the skirl of the bagpipes.

Mrs WORLAND, grandmother of the six lads mentioned, lived and died at Yourie, and throughout Cobargo district was esteemed for her sterling honesty and fine neighbourly qualities.
