Biography contributed by Anita Tsamtsikas

Accoding to his record, Clarence although eager to enlist didn't spend much time on the front line. He was regularly absent from his unit with and without consent. He spent a lot of time in and out of hospital.

In 1917 he married his 16 year old orphaned wife on 4 December 1917 at the St John Parish Church at Bethnal Green. He brought Lillian back to Australia with him onboard the Pt Napier and arrived back in February 1920.

By the time Clarence had returned to Australia he was required to forfeit 318 days in wages to Army.
