Births Dec 1874 Wood Ernest John Hailsham 2b 81.
Ernest emigrated to Australia in 1898, aged 24, and became a draper and outfitter.
Unmarried.
Enlisted Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
He was 43 and the eldest son of John and Ann Wood; brother of Walter David Wood of Ifield Mills, Crawley, Sussex.
John Wood later lived in Ifield and ran Ifield steam mill.
His parents predeceased him.
He is remembered on the following war memorials in the area where his father lived.
1-Crawley Memorial Gardens.
The new town of Crawley has incorporated the old Crawley Memorial Park Gates in one of the exits of the new shopping mall. It is a Memorial Garden with wrought iron gates with brick pillars and a plaque on each pillar. In 1914, Crawley was a large village and very close to the parish of Ifield, consequently most of the Ifield men are included on the Memorial Gates. There are 111 names recorded covering World War 1 only.
